Elementary Enrichment Workshop Instructor
Reports To: Associate Director of Elementary Programs
Hiring and Position Start Date: Resumes accepted on an ongoing basis. Hiring usually takes place in July and December.
Hours: Instructors MUST be available to teach the following times: Mondays/Wednesdays from 3-4pm, Tuesdays/Thursdays from 3-4pm, and/or Fridays 4:15-6pm. Calendar follows school-year calendar.
Salary: Hourly rate DOE. Benefits are not included.

OASES serves over 400 low-income youth annually with a tutor to youth ratio of 1:4 to 1:10. OASES trains 400 U.C. Berkeley students--the largest volunteer force in any Oakland Unified School District after school program. OASES engages youth in opportunities that often are not offered at school through leadership, environmental education, diversity education, financial literacy, & arts, & more!
About OASES LEAP Elementary School Enrichment Program:
The goals of enrichment workshops are to empower elementary students as leaders and to support diversity education through a variety of workshop topics. OASES is looking for instructors in the following subject areas:
Peer Leadership, Financial Literacy, Art, Capoeira, Dance, Creative Writing, Diversity Education, Photography, Music, Drama, and/or Computer/Technology Literacy. OASES LEAP will also consider other curriculum not listed above.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Oversee & manage a group of 15-25 elementary students (grades 3-5), depending on class size
- Exercise creativity in developing & teaching workshop content curriculum for youth, including organizing resource materials & designing culturally competent lessons.
- Meet with Associate Director of Elementary Programs to discuss students & curriculum, as needed.
- Provide a written outline of the workshop for the semester (sample curriculum is available)
- Work with youth on planning and implementing a presentation to their peers at the end of the semester.
- Provide monthly progress reports on workshop activities.
- Instructors MUST be available to teach the following times: Mondays/Wednesdays from 3-4pm, Tuesdays/Thursdays from 3-4pm, and/or Fridays 4:15-6pm.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated involvement & commitment to the youth community.
- Experience (volunteer/paid) working with youth.
- Good administrative & supervisory skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of workshop enrichment workshop content and curriculum.
- Experience teaching enrichment workshop curriculum to youth.
- Must obtain Fingerprint Clearance and TB test as a condition of employment.
